BUNDICAO – our cocoa from Uganda

We decided to setup our African operations in Uganda after identifying East Africa as a growing market. Based in Kampala, we established BUNDICAO LTD in January 2015.

After 5 years of operation, we achieved the milestone of becoming the largest cocoa exporter in Uganda, which we continue to be today. In 2021 we exported 16,000 MT, which we could not have done without the incredibly talented, hardworking and reliable team we have built.

From Uganda we have specialized in supplying large volumes of conventional beans to Asian grinders (Indonesia, Malaysia, India). From third parties we source smaller volumes of certified Fairtrade, Organic EU and NOP cocoa.

BUNDICAO's objectives are to promote:

  • Maintain and improve worker’s and employee’s living conditions by safeguarding their health and safety. We aim to be an employer of choice through our daily practices as a responsible employer

  • Assist capacity development by providing cocoa farmers with individual technical assistance from our field staff, as well as through the information exchanged in our farmer field school sessions, which cover topics such as income diversification, accounting, environmental protection, gender equality, nutrition and reforestation

  • Eliminate any form of forced labour, child labour or discrimination we encounter

  • Ensure the traceability and quality of the cocoa we purchase, including that it does not originate from protected or illegally deforested areas

  • Strengthen and maintain the long-standing relationships we have with our partner farmers

All the cocoa we purchase is centrally collected in our warehouse in Kampala, where it is additionally dried, sorted and re-bagged prior to stuffing into containers by our own staff.

From Uganda, we can offer conventional cocoa beans as well as EU/NOP organic and FLO Fairtrade certified cocoa beans.
